Over the winter of 1983 to ’84, Piermont was turned upside-down
for the filming of The Purple Rose of Cairo, which event truly changed the
village for ever. Locals joked that the crew upgraded Piermont to look
like a 1935 depression-era town!
Savage produced several extensive exhibits of the event from start to
demolition of the fake movie theatre, and a set of sepia-toned post cards
of the event sold out in weeks.
